National Overview:
There are 114 local authorities in Ireland with 1,627 elected members
as follows:

County Councils are responsible for local government in the 29 administrative
counties (there are 26 geographical counties but the county of Tipperary
and the county of Dublin are divided into two and three administrative
counties respectively).
City Councils are responsible for local government in the cities of Dublin,
Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.
Borough Councils have certain local government functions in the larger
towns.
Town Councils have limited functions in 75 towns throughout the country.

Area and Town Council. It should be noted that Members can and have served
on a Town Council while also on the County Council:
